Sean

I guess I could talk about myself in the third person, and pretend I'm all surprised when I see glowing superlatives about me on here, but that's kinda weird. I got no problem tooting my own horn, but I aint gonna pretend someone else is saying it.

For the last 20 years, I have been at the forefront of Eugene's rock-via-roots music scene, including rockabilly, psychobilly, rock n roll, surf, bluegrass, blues and country. In addition to guitar, I also play 5-string banjo, steel guitar, mandolin, dobro, bass, and trumpet/cornet.

I have been writing and performing since 1985, although I guess I got most folk's attention in the late '90s/early 00s, touring up and around the western half of the US with the renegade string band Honey Buckit. We had a lot of fun and did some cool stuff, like recording in Nashville's RCA Studio B, but all good things come to an end. Since Honey Buckit's demise in '04, I've been active in Oregon and beyond with a wide variety of projects, ranging from the loudest rock-n-roll to quiet folkie style projects. Hey, I've got range!

My current projects include "Psychotic Rockabilly" with Atomic Junkyard, musical director for Michelle Sellers and the Dirty Regrets (old school jazz-blues-RnB), psychobilly Kiss Me Deadly, rocka-psychobilly/beyond Sean ShanaBand, electric bass in indie-rock trio The Homemakers, and traditional rockabilly with the Devil Rockets.

I also perform as an occasional sideman with the Chris Chandler/Paul Benoit show on mandolin, banjo, guitar and trumpet/cornet.

Yes, I like to keep busy.

I've toured and performed with artists like Vassar Clements, Danny Barnes, Ron 'Bulldog' Johnson, Fiddlin' Sue Big Band, Thistle (with ex-Jackmormon Brad Rosen), Frankie Hernandez, Kenny Reed's Stone Cold Jazz, Aaron Lowe, and Peter Wilde. There are many others, I'm just blanking right now.

I've done sideman work/performances with Doug Dillard, John McCuen, Joe Craven, Jackass Willie, Opal Creek, the Sugar Beets, and Mbiras Unlimited. I have also performed with the Red Raven Follies.

I've also guested (ie sat-in) with acts like Izzy and the Catastrophics, Adam and Kris, Truckstop Honeymoon, Jackass Willie, Yonder Mountain String Band, and many more.

My recording credits include Vassar (in Nashville's historic RCA Studio B), Doug Dillard, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Chris Chandler/Paul Benoit, Ed Cole, Jeremy Wegner, Peter Wilde, The Koozies, Jackass Willie, Mare Wakefield, David Hall, and Biff Rose in addition to many others which I can't remember right now.

And yes, for the past 15 years on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month I have hosted the Sam Bonds Bluegrass jam.

Oh, and to answer the question most often asked about me; Murrays. Lots and lots of Murrays.
